Ok so I have been very busy- I took a break from the Orc's, and I have been working on a Slann and his Temple Guard for a little while- pictures to follow.  I am in the middle of some big life changes, so I am not sure how often I will blog but I will get to it when I can.

How I am painting my Hunter Orcs part 2

I am really loving these Hunter Orcs.  Both of the models, Hunter Orcs, and Hunter Orcs on Fell Wargs,  are awesome sculpts, I think they look meaner, and more ferocious than the Orcs in the movie. They are a pleasure to paint.

we had base painted the orcs with Zandri dust and washed them with seripiam sepia.

next step is to pick out the flesh with Ugor flesh- this is a lighter tone and will help use to get the golden, or red tones later on the flesh.

pick out each of the flesh area's around the armor, watch for small and hidden spots- knees, toes, heals, and hands.
Now we want a second wash on just the flesh area's.  These will Orcs have 2 different skin tones.  A golden skin tone,  or a Red skin tone. To achieve this we will use the seripium sepia shade or Reikland Flesh shade.
we want a thin even layer over all the flesh area's  avoid puddles as much as possible!! we are not only looking to bring out detail here but to use the shade to tone the skin.

I did a little of both some with the Fleshshade giving a redder look to them and some with the Sepia giving more of a golden tone- for a more dirty look you could use Arax Earthshade if you wanted.

next we will start to pick out armor and weapons and get closer to our finished product.

Thanks for reading.

How I am painting my Hunter Orcs part 1

I want to have several armies in The Hobbit Strategy Battle game, both good and evil sides which I hope will enable me to play more often, and gives me the opportunity to collect paint and play with more models. That said I decided to add a war band of Hunter Orcs on foot to the warband of Hunter Orcs on Fell Wargs that I am already working on.  As my 1st post on this blog I thought I would share how I am painting my Hunter Orcs.

I started by pre-basing the orcs with a small basing matieral then Priming the orcs with Chaos Black Primer.  Next I based all the orcs with Zandri Dust- I made sure that this was a VERY thin layer and if needed did a second thin layer to get the coverage I wanted.

My next step was to wash the entire model with Seiphim Sepia again a very thin layer, avoiding puddles and trying to keep it as even a possible.

So that is where I am at with them now.  Next step will be to start layering the flesh, then picking out armor and leather. I will update what I get done in the next week.

I also had the opportunity this week to finally base my dwarf Rangers completing them so I thought I would include a few pictures of finished models here as well.

Thanks for Reading I plan to update at least once a week. so watch here for more.
